Back Into the Swing

You know what will throw a spanner in the works of your word count?

Vacation.

I didn't get any non-blogging writing done while I was gone, and it's a good reminder to exclude vacation time from the word count weeks.

Tonight I was supposed to start catching up, but I took care of details instead. Worked on my financial spreadsheets, sifted through the bits of paper that had been piling up on my desk. Burned a bunch of stuff to iTunes so I could get rid of the CDs. Finished reading a couple of magazines that had been hanging around.

Not creative work at all, but it feels like prep for creative work. Now I don't have to look at that ugly pile of god-knows-what.

Tomorrow, I clean the fish tank so the water level is higher and the filter makes less noise. Really, it shouldn't make a difference, I know. But I like to feel like the details are done.
