'Graf' is just prehistoric writer/printer shorthand for 'paragraph'. It's newspaper backshop jargon left over from the days when lead-spitting linotypes were state of the art, and clunking telexes were the only terminals anybody'd ever heard of... I believe it's still taught in some journalism schools for the insider appeal.
(If I'd wanted to be consciously wanky, I could've called it a 'lede graf'.)/>/>/>/>
