Quiet Times

Coming up this weekend:

  • driving lesson
  • sister visit
  • visit with J. and Kat and Cameron?
  • brunch
  • wax on, wax off
  • run
  • dress up birthday party
  • hangover avoidance
  • backgammon with Mae
  • yoga
  • potluck birthday party

Somewhere in there, I need to mail off a couple of very late birthday presents; get some grocery shopping done; maybe sleep. I need to rev up a bit too, since I just got off a skype call with CT, wherein I mostly had my head propped up on my hands, and mostly said some version of "Sorry I'm so quiet. I am very tired."

Which is basically all I said over dinner to M-C and Shelley.

I may need to say no to something on that list.

Phone calls like that suck. I'm not sure what the "wax on / wax off" thing is about but it sounds pretty important... maybe the running thing would be the easiest to avoid. How much sleep have you been getting recently?

Stop. Breathe. Possibly go back to bed for a couple of hours. Drink some tea. Shuffle around in fuzzy slippers if you own them. If not, ponder which friend you can get to purchase fuzzy slippers for you. Breathe some more.

Thanks kids. Mae will still be sick on Monday night, so I'll visit her then.

Gabriel - the answer to your question will always be "not enough." I have a lot of friends and do a lot of stuff, and the easiest thing to cut, often, is sleep. Not so good, I know. Haven't figured out a way around that yet.

The run is non-negotiable - the physical activity keeps me calm and sane.

As to the wax on/wax off being important, that's all probably a matter of perspective.

Yeah, I hate being a dud. Never fun.

Stubble is worse than redness.

Lack of sleep plays a huge factor in depression... I know that sounds insanely obvious but a whole lot of studies published over the past year make the connection really interesting.

This was a 60 Minutes report from last spring:

The part about sleep and diabetes was really interesting.

I recommend you line up some help when you're getting the wax off, if you're doing my kind of waxing. Well, you probably could use assistance with either kind.

Hey, and are you guys ever coming back to Friday nights? Just asking.
