I turn insomnic pretty regularly. It's how my body and psyche deal with stress. It can be debilitating, especially when it just goes on and on and on. But over time I've learned to stop fighting it. When I realize it's going to be one of those nights, I get out of bed and do the following:

+ eat cereal, toast, or whatever carb I have on hand.
+ watch a favorite movie I've seen a bajillion times (usually its Some Like It Hot, Die Hard, or Singing in the Rain).
+ get on the sofa.

The food helps make my body tired. The familiar, well-worn movie distracts my brain from mulling over whatever it is that's stressing me out. The sofa helps somehow.. I think it's because the pressure to sleep is lifted. And it's easier then to nod off.
